Reading and Phonics
here are various games and activities online which will help your child both at home and at school to retain the learning that we have done in our classroom. Feel free to browse through the different games below and find one which you feel will be beneficial. The phonics games are suited to children who have just started school and are beginning to link letter/ sound knowledge. Click on the pictures and they will take you to the games. Don’t be surprised if your children know how to use the games better than you do!

Many thanks to Lizette Turnbull from Waihi Beach School for her work on http://mathzlinks.wikispaces.com/ which I have linked to our maths page for children to use at home and at school in our mathematics rotation time.
An explanation of the number stages is on the first page. Links to the stages are on the right hand side of this page. You will see that the link will say Stage 0 to stage 1 etc… as we are always using tools to move the children to the next stage. There is also a strategy and a knowledge button for each stage thanks to Lizette, with games specifically chosen to help children learn. Within the Numeracy Project we need to teach both at the same time. The Kowhai Children are mostly working between stages 0 and 4, depending on their ability and age.
