Effective from 1 February 2017

The guidelines for development and operation of enrolment schemes are issued under section 11G (3) of the Education Act 1989 for the purpose of describing the basis on which the Secretary’s powers in relation to enrolment schemes will be exercised.

Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below (and shown on the map) shall be eligible to enrol at the school.

Starting at the southern end of Te Matai Road, head north along Te Matai Road to number 486. At this point take a direct line to the intersection of No 1 Road and Cheetham Avenue. Continue north along No 1 Road. All of Te Matai Road and Cheetham Avenue are in zone. No 1 Road from the intersection with Cheetham Avenue (number 453 No 1 Road) north to intersection with Te Puke Highway (SH2) are in zone. Roderick Lane and Edgehill Place also are in zone.

Head east along Te Puke Highway (SH2) to Brown Road. Head south along Brown Road until it intersects with Te Matai Road. From number 573 Te Matai Road, head east to the intersection of Rangiuru Road and Oak Drive. Homewood Drive, Mark Road and Oak Drive are in zone.

Head south along Rangiuru Road until it intersects with Te Matai Road then head back to the start point at the southern end of Te Matai Road. Rangiuru Road from number 852 is in zone.

All streets within the boundary stated above are in zone.

Both sides of the in-zone roads above are included unless otherwise stated.

​Requirements for in-zone applications

Proof of residence within the home zone will be required.  Proof of permanent residence within our school zone.  This needs to be a current long-term tenancy agreement, a sale and purchase agreement or a recent household power, telephone or rates account. The document needs to clearly show the parent/caregivers full name and their residential address. (NB: Not required for Out Of Zone Applications) 

The address given at the time of application for enrolment must be the student’s usual place of residence when the school is open for instruction. The Ministry of Education has advised that parents should be warned of the possible consequences of deliberately attempting to gain unfair priority in enrolment by knowingly giving a false address or making an in zone arrangement which they intend to be only temporary, for example:

• Residing in zone on a short term basis (less than one year)

• Arranging temporary board in zone with a relative or family friend

• Using the in zone address of a relative or friend as an “address of convenience”

 

If the Te Ranga Board of Trustees learns that a student is no longer living at the in zone address given at the time of application for enrolment, and believes that a temporary in zone residence has been used for the purpose of unfairly gaining priority in enrolment, then the Board will review the enrolment and possibly annul the enrolment. This course of action is provided under Section 11(OA) of the Education Act 1989. Te Ranga may actively collect information to ensure that enrolment data provided is accurate.

Each year, applications for enrolment in the following year from in-zone students will be sought by a date which will be published in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. This will enable the board to assess the number of places which can be made available to students who live outside the home zone.

Out of Zone Enrolments

Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

As per the enrolment scheme legislation, applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

First Priority – This priority is not applicable at this school because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education.

Second Priority – will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.

Third Priority – will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.

Fourth Priority – will be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school.

Fifth Priority – will be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school.

Sixth Priority – will be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, Selection within the priority group will be by ballot conducted in accordance with instructions by the Secretary. Under Section 11G (1) on the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

 

Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
